Pharmacology deals with medicines and their actions in the human body. Pharmacology has two divisions- Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics. Pharmacokinetics is the study of changes occurring to the drug in the body. Pharmacodynamics is the study of changes in the drug produced in the body. Experimental pharmacology deals with drug screening studies using animals and isolated tissue preparations; demonstrations are done through software.

Mission

The mission of the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology is summarized in the following general objectives:
 

  • To carry out scientific research and evidence-based teaching, expanding on our track record of innovation and excellence in both research and teaching
  • Transmission of knowledge to pharma students through teaching in a manner that allows them to develop their analytical and intellectual capabilities
  • To acquire new knowledge in Pharmacology and Toxicology by conducting and promoting innovative research
  • The final aim of this research is to establish the efficacy, safety, and effectiveness of medications in humans, to discover new lead compounds and to understand the mechanisms of action of drugs
  • Inspires the faculty and staff to constantly upgrade their knowledge and skill to achieve goals well aligned with the Vision and Mission

Message from the Head of Department

Hearty welcome to the Department of Pharmacology, Al-Azhar College of Pharmacy, Thodupuzha, Kerala. The department is actively involved in competently designed innovative teaching, learning, evaluation, and research activities as per the Kerala University of Health Science (KUHS) for undergraduate students. Our department is well equipped with experienced and enthusiastic faculty members. We have adequate teaching, learning facilities to enable the students to learn this subject. There is enough equipment for conducting practicals in pharmacology, simulated animal experiments are by computer assisted learning. If you have any questions at any time in the future, please do not hesitate to reach out to our team of staff in the department; we are here to support you.
